Biased Gaza coverage is the tip of a much larger media iceberg

April 1, 2024

This is an on point analysis of the bias and other colonialist practices of mainstream Western media that are so badly impacting how we understand and address conflicts and crises.  Until we address these issues of outsiders interests and biases dominating the story we tell about ‘others,’ the public is not going to be well informed or able to engage effectively.

There is also a book mentioned in the article that I highly recommend, Humanitarian Journalists. It is a deep dive into an alternative approach to reporting that addresses some of the systemic problems with out news coverage.

The problems of international news coverage will not be resolved by simple appeals to journalistic codes without addressing deeper systemic issues.

Michael Sheridan is one of the best teachers one could hope to have. He has a genuine commitment to facilitating students’ ability to realize their vision, which is backed by a deep understanding of technology and technique. I had the pleasure of hiring Michael to teach over twenty years, and student reviews were always excellent.
