Happy Independence to the US…and Haiti!

July 3, 2014

Dear Friends of Community Supported Film,

The U.S. celebrates 238 years of independence from Great Britain this week. And, this year Haiti celebrates 210 years of independence from France. Haitians were the first people to win their independence by the revolt of slaves. Their success had a major impact on American and European histories and emboldened many other enslaved African and Caribbean people. Sadly the economic histories of the U.S. and Haiti have diverged dramatically over the last 200 plus years.

Haiti’s history and story have been commandeered by outside interests since their independence and right through the last four years of coping with the 2010 earthquake. Haitians need to communicate their own history and economic and social development story. You can help them tell their story by supporting Haitian Perspectives in Film – Community Supported Film’s documentary filmmaking training and production project.

To bring this work to fruition we still need to reach our $27,750 campaign goal by raising the last $8,460 by July 11th. Thank you very much to everyone who helped us meet our matching gift challenge of $7,500. You did it!

We are thrilled to announce that another long-time supporter has come forward with an additional $2,500 challenge that we must match in the next eight days.

Please contribute as generously as you can so that we can complete our campaign and get to work in Haiti.

Many thanks and best wishes,
Michael Signature

Michael Sheridan is one of the best teachers one could hope to have. He has a genuine commitment to facilitating students’ ability to realize their vision, which is backed by a deep understanding of technology and technique. I had the pleasure of hiring Michael to teach over twenty years, and student reviews were always excellent.
