CSFilm Selected as Echoing Green Semi-Finalist

Echoing-Green-LogoCommunity Supported Film is proud to announce we have reached the semi-finalist round for the 2013 Echoing Green Fellowship.  Out of 3,000 candidate submissions, CSFilm’s Michael Sheridan was among 444 social entrepreneurs selected to continue on to the next level of competition.  The fellowship will ultimately go to 25 winners, who will each receive $80,000 to support their social change endeavors.

Echoing Green’s premier program is its highly competitive global Fellowship, which provides more than $2 million in seed support to a diverse group of emerging social entrepreneurs every year. From thousands of applicants, typically fewer than one percent are ultimately selected to receive up to $90,000 over two years to support the launch of their new organizations.

Five years have passed since the fall of Afghanistan—a period that, for millions of people, has meant far more than lost years. It has been five years of humiliation, deprivation, fear, silence, and the gradual erosion of hope and human dignity.

Five years ago, Afghanistan fell into the hands of a group that, instead of building a future, closed the doors of life on its people. During these five years, the Taliban have not moved toward reform or change. On the contrary, with each passing day, restrictions have expanded and life has become increasingly difficult for millions of Afghans. The rights to education, work, freedom of movement, social participation, and many of the most basic freedoms of human beings—particularly women and girls—have been taken away.
